The present day Arles is a bustling city full of life and vitality, a thriving river port with ships, barges and pleasure boats. Arles is a major town on the tourist circuit, its fame sealed by the extraordinarily well-preserved Roman arena, Les Arènes , at the city's heart, and backed by an impressive variety of other stones and monuments, both Roman and medieval.There are museums depicting the history and traditions of the region, and art galleries which give an insight into why Provence is so loved by painters, past and present.
