Fondée au tournant de l'an mil, Laval a longtemps été une ville-porte, à la croisée des provinces de Normandie, de Bretagne, d'Anjou et du Maine.

De cette situation privilégiée, elle a gardé un riche patrimoine architectural, auquel est venu s'ajouter un urbanisme sans excès au 19ème siècle.

Cette richesse lui vaut aujourd'hui d'être labelllisée "Ville d'Art et d'Histoire" et reconnue comme une ville à la campagne où il fait bon vivre.
