AUTUN, "Ville d'Art et d'Histoire" (vestiges gallo-romains, cathédrale).
Fondée à la fin du 1er siècle avant JC par la volonté de l’empereur Auguste, point de départ de quinze voies romaines, Autun comptait six kilomètres de rempart, quatre portes monumentales (la porte Saint-André et la porte d’Arroux sont restées quasiment intactes), plusieurs édifices de spectacle dont subsiste le théâtre le plus important de Gaule (il pouvait accueillir vingt mille spectateurs). A découvrir également le temple de Janus, sanctuaire de tradition celtique.
Située sur la partie haute de la ville, la Cathédrale Saint-Lazare est l’une des plus belles églises romanes de style clunisien de la région, parée de gothique flamboyant. Le tympan, les chapiteaux ont été sculptés au XIIème siècle par Gislebertus.
Nouveauté 2002 : trois circuits St Lazare - ville haute, Marchaux - Ville Basse et Champs de Mars, Augustodunum gallo-romain permettent de découvrir Autun à son rythme.
