Built over 300 years ago "The Old Salt House" in Port Launay in the region of Finistère, Brittany is nestled on the banks of the river L'Aulne with outstanding and uninterrupted views over the countryside.

The Nantes-Brest Canal runs in front of the property, providing opportunities for cycling, walking, fishing and sailing.  Restaurants, bakery and bars are 3 minutes walk. Situated close to picturesque Châteaulin (hypermarket, bars/restaurants etc), National Parc Armorique and the many beautiful beaches on the bay of Douarnenez.
To wake up in the morning looking straight out to the waters that glisten and shadow the surrounding houses is like waking up in a fairytale story.  Sometimes you just do not want to get out of bed!!..

Having the Boulangerie next door is lethal for us and all that come to stay but its like a magnet drawing you in with the beautiful cakes and pastries and homemade breads...there is one strict rule in our home and that is "NO DIETING"
The locals are so friendly and invite you into their homes and the hospitality is so gracious which is something which you dont get a lot of in the UK and here you can even leave your door unlocked or open as there is no crime at all but you do have to sift out the one's who just want to visit and be very nosey as to how you live....yes you know who you are but it is the same one's who do not make it past the front door!!!
The local supermarkets are well stocked with fresh produce and the fish is caught locally and the meats are so fresh that you are spoilt for choice but one thing we do miss is Bovril and Heinz sauce!!!.......as much as we love France and the people and its surroundings im afraid some things I would go back for so we now buy in the case load and bring it back from the UK!!.

The Old Salt House is situated on the riverside in Port Launay, Finistère, Brittany.
Spectacular riverside setting in Port Launay.  The Nantes-Brest Canal runs in front of the property, providing opportunities for cycling, walking, fishing and sailing.  The bakery is next door, restaurants and a bar  are 3 minutes walk.  Situated close to picturesque Châteaulin (hypermarket, bars/restaurants etc), National Parc Armorique and the many beautiful beaches on the bay of Douarnenez.

'Bay of Douarnenez'
"If it's beaches you like, then you can choose one a day for a fortnight and still not have seen them all. The nearest is Pentrez with a 2.5 kilometre flat sandy beach plus shops and cafes. St-Anne-la-Palud has one bar in the middle of 2km of sand and a Michelin starred restaurant at the southern end."

We stayed at the Old Salt House in Sept 2010 for 5 nights. The location is great and the bedroom was excellent, there is a complimentary fridge stocked with wine, beer and water......and we didn’t have to pay for this extra service. The breakfast was very good and Rhiannon looked after us very well, she knows the area and places to eat out. We found this B and B on the Gay Provence web site and then looked it up on trip advisor.
