Welcome to Camont- a French Farmhouse in Gascony. Perched on the sleepy banks of the Canal de Garonne near Agen, Camont sits in a two-acre park with potager, herb garden, orchard and wooded springs. This charming country retreat, just 15 minutes from Agen, is home to Kate Hill's French Kitchen Adventures and has been featured on PBS and BBC cooking and gardening programs. Discover the simple pleasure of Camont - a charming two bedroom / two bathroom stone farmhouse set in a two-and-a-half acre private park of shady trees & gardens on the banks of the quiet Canal de Garonne in Southwest France.
Camont features accommodation for 4 guests with two bedrooms/ two baths- one with a queen size bed, en-suite clawfoot bath, sink & toilet, and one with queen-size bed, single bed, en-suite tiled shower, sink & toilet.
Other amenities include: high speed wireless internet connection, telephone, stereo, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, barbeque, fireplace, central heating, bicycles, & kayak.
We supply bed, bath and kitchen linens as well as all the little things overseas visitors might need: a basic stock of kitchen goods including coffee, sugar, spices and that first bottle of wine. Kate Hill is often on site to provide local expertise and bi-lingual assistance. If you are interested in a day's cooking class or outing on the Julia Hoyt, please enquire at the time of booking. Maid, cook and driver service can be arranged.
Camont's exceptional towpath setting alongside the Canal de Garonne is her unique charm. Once an active relais for horse-drawn barges during the bustling centuries of canal traffic, she now stands a silent sentinel to the slow passage of pleasure vessels. Owner Kate Hill moors her classic Dutch tjalk 'Julia Hoyt' at the foot of Camont's garden and has written of her gastronomic adventures at Camont and across Southwest France in 'A Culinary Journey in Gascony' (ten speed press). Camont is surrounded by two-and-a-half acres of quiet private park, including flower, herb gardens and the French Kitchen's potager and heirloom orchard; a shady glen of running springs and ponds invites you to discover the simple pleasures of a hammock and a good book beneath the sheltering trees.
The vine-draped dining terrace is an ideal shady spot to eat and relax on sleepy summer days. This terrace links the stone buildings with a quiet courtyard surrounded by a medieval-style herb garden. The oak wine vat table comfortably seats 8-10.
The potager, herb and tea gardens at hand; guests and visitors are welcome to help themselves to the delicious herbs, vegetables, and flowers. The park-like setting of the potager and boules court is a perfect gathering spot for evening drinks. An antique rose drapes across the arbor leading to the bridge which connects Camont to the canal towpath. There are plenty of activities at hand; the towpath stretches endlessly in both directions and is very pleasant to walk or ride along.
