Gites L'athanor
|
Night from 45 € Clientele : All welcome |
In Drome provencale, a hamlet, l'Athanor, two Charming Houses and one apartment. When we discovered this place in 1981, at the end of an unlikely path, partially covered by bushes, guarded by a few cows during the summer, we took 15 minutes to buy it. Just the time to glimpse the harmony that it could emanate one day, and without realising that it would take...19 years of work, 20,000 working hours to succeed in totally restoring it.
We took the time to impregnate ourselves with the atmosphere of the country, of the place. We managed to gather, as time went by, the necessary ancient material. We collected the stone. We cut, one by one, the thousands of bushes that invaded the meadows . We tried to listen to what the place wanted to tell us. And we rebuilt, without adding 1 extra bit of metre square to the original surface.
It had been a farm : and from it, we preserved the stable, the barn, as well as the small agricultural activity. It had been invaded by vegetation, we opened it to the valley, to the place, to the world,: to you who would like to come and breath again.
It had been a hamlet where had lived poorly - four families: we rebuilt there three lodgings, among them ours too. The bread-oven common for all, still functions, and the fountain flows again, into what has become with the passing years a true flowering garden in all seasons.
La Glycine Agr. : 2433 MS 23 83 m² 6 pers
Appartment " Glycine"
It has been fitted out in an old barn. Its particularity is having an extra acess from the exterior, for the second independent bedroom on the ground floor. This room has two singlebeds and a doubledecker bed, a shower room and a WC, with a washing machine.
Thanks to the natural slope one reaches the vast living room of 35 m²s by means of four steps, which has a lounge area with a fireplace and televisionHI-FI and DVD reader, and the dining area. An open kitchen including dishwasher, double sink, gas/electricity stove, ventilation fan, fridge-freezer, microwave oven, the electric coffee machine finds room beneath the staircase.
At the same level is a double room (large bed 160x200) also with a superb dominant view of the valley, as well as a shower room with WC.
Numerous wooden panelings, made up of massive wood , confer on the whole, a regional rustic style.
The openings of the living room, oriented S-E, S-W give on to the garden, the N-W opening of the room on top opens out to the valley, the room on the lower level on a paved court, to the N. In the heart of the garden, a beautiful terrace, shaded by a limetree, will allow you to have all your meals outside, even in the height of summer.
"L'Olivier" Aggr.: 26 MS 2494 - 100 m²s 5 persons
Apartment Olivier
This renting was fitted out in 1999 in the oldest part of the buildings, and was necessary to be completely rebuilt. It permitted us to optimize the space and the the disposition of the rooms, and make them very rational and aesthetic.
We respected the disposition of a traditional local farm, and from the paved court you enter directly into the living room with lounge area, including the fireplace, television, video, hi-fi, and dining room.
The built-in, American type kitchen, includes the dishwasher, vitro-ceramic plate, double-sink, ventilation fan, microwave oven, washing & drying machine, fridge-freezer, and also looks out onto a superb terrace with a dominant view, where you will like to have your breakfast in the sun, your lunch in the shade, and your dinner in the setting sun, while admiring the sunsets on the heights of the Massif Central, beyond the Rhone.
A WC along with a wash basin completes this level.
The dining room - kitchen has the particularity, rare for these ancient houses, to be very well-lit, illuminated by three french-windows and two windows, because it looks onto the four possible directions (S-E, S-W, N-W, N-E).
A staircase takes you upstairs, where the floor is made up of the traditional chestnut parquet. A corridor takes you to the three rooms and a vast and luminous bathroom furnished with a shower, a bath-tub and an independent WC.
The three rooms are very different, fitted out under the single slope or double slopes of the roof. Our customers, like us, have found in them an obvious charm: it will be your turn to be the judge.
You need to know again that the set of interior doors have been made in oak or walnut by a local cabinetmaker, and that the furniture is for a good part ancient, a result of popular traditional art. Every time that it was possible, the ancient panelling and obvious stones have been preserved, for the pleasure of being seen and the warmth that ensues from these materials which have already lived.
A garage completes the renting, but if your vehicle is cumbersome, you might prefer to leave it some meters away on our private parking lot.
Vehicles, except when loading or unloading baggage, are banished from the hamlet and need to be parked away. You will no doubt, appreciate this detail like us, when you experience the particular calmness procured by the absence of cars.

Un endroit 'very cosy'. Félicitations et un grand merci à Yves.
